UPDATE 09/04/08: We at Save Granny's House want to thank everyone for supporting us to this point and apologize for the lack of updates.  We were able to get the extension over the summer and have been trying to refinance the house. Unfortunately, this doesn't seem to be possible for us at this point, so we're turning once again to everyone for help. The next deadline is coming up in November and we please ask that everyone continue to spread the word and to donate to help save the house.

UPDATE: As of last week, we have applied to the bank for a 90 day extension; we are still waiting for their response.  In the meantime we are seeking counseling and attempting to start the application process for a refinance loan, but it's taking time we do not have. We seem to be encountering road blocks at every avenue we take.  Please, we are in desperate need of time and getting the word out even further to the public.  If you would be willing to volunteer to help us raise money, or if you are a Church or organization who might be willing to volunteer or match what we have raised, please email us ASAP!

UPDATE: We are looking for businesses and organizations that would be willing to match the amount we have raised.  If your are apart of or know of any such organiation, please contact us with that information.

In August 2007, a long time resident of Fort Worth, Tx was diagnosed and passed away due to cancer. In accordance with her final wishes, her home and all her earthly possessions were bequeathed to her sister (who will henceforth be referred to as Granny for her protection); a sister who had taken care of her and stayed by her side until the end. She did this in hopes that her younger sister, also a senior citizen at age 68, would be well taken care of in her wake.

Unfortunately, this was not to be the case due to a reverse mortgage loan taken out against the home before her passing.

A reverse mortgage is a loan taken against an owned property with the understanding that it does not have to be repaid until the owner of the property has passed, at which point any heirs would relinquish the property to the lender or start immediate repayment of the funds borrowed.

To prevent to home from being seized or entering into the repayment term when she passed, the elder sister took what she believed, advised by her bank and her lawyer, to be the necessary steps to ensure the reverse mortgage loan would continue on in her sister's name.

Unfortunately, due to incompetence, misunderstandings, and false information, the bank has declared these steps void and has informed Granny that the house will be seized in less than 30 days unless the loan can be paid.

As stated before, Granny is 68 years old. Like her late sister, she is a senior citizen living on a very small fixed income and is unable to draw the funds necessary to save her and her sister's home. This house that she has shared with her sister is her only refuge and shelter. If something is not done, not only will a lifetime of memories be lost, a senior citizen will be left without a home.

Now That You Know The Story...

We Need Your Help!

In light her of plight, we ask you, whoever you may be, to find it in your heart to help Granny save her home. We are asking everyone who can to make a donation of at least $1.00 to go toward the house fund. A dollar is not much money to spare per person; surely, if enough people donate, we might be able to raise the funds in time to save the house!

If you don't feel that you are able to donate, than we ask that you please help by spreading the word: tell your friends, family, associates, anything to get the word out so that we can accomplish our goal. Also, if you know anything about the reverse mortgage loan system or know anyone who may have gone through a similar situation, please don't hesitate to contact us.

Whatever decision you may make, we thank you for taking the time out of your day to read of Granny's situation.

Thank you and God bless.
